Too bad steam doesn't support exclusive releases :/ Then he could release it to the people who paid for early access on steam
This would work fine on Steam. Just give keys out to the people who qualify for early access.

I just deal with whatever I get and roleplay a little story in my head. When I got a noble and two farm oafs I played it out like she was a princess stranded on the planet by the accident and the oafs were her servants. Her quarters were magnificent and one of them was dedicated to simply seeing to her needs and making sure her flower pots were tended while the other did all the manual labor.

Exactly. Don't put your turret in the open where they can be shot from a distance. Put a wall around the front or build them into rock hollows so they have to come within range to acquire target.

You don't live on an alien planet where a bad thunderstorm can burn down your whole colony, or a sniper team of raiders might randomly show up and shoot you while you're gardening. Please don't try to draw a parallel between your safe bedroom and a room on a colony on an alien world full of danger.

Not as often as I should.  "Ate Nutrient Paste"?  Is there another option to feed them?  Seems like they always go to the dispenser even when there is plenty of stored food.  Does food variety matter?  e.g.  Should I be harvesting wild plants?
As far as I've seen, nutrient paste is the least terrible food option. Without it they eat 'raw food' which is even worse for their mood.

Give every person a 4x6 or bigger room with a bed that doesn't touch the wall, carpeted floor, and a light. That should go a long way towards fixing their mental issues. Make sure nowhere they go is dark at any time, and dispose of corpses far away from your colonists. Keep one guy on cleaning full time.

Have you looked at their thoughts to figure out what is negatively impacting their happiness/loyalty?

The only time I've had real trouble is when events conspire to screw up my planned defenses.

Eclipse followed by a solar flare knocks out all of my power, everyone is miserable due to a long time eating raw food in the dark. Raiders attack equipped with frag grenades and other explosives. Things like that.

The game is a lot of fun though, I'm enjoying the challenge. I guess thats the part of my brain that loves Dwarf Fortress talking.
