New Idea for Character Screen

Having seen the latest screenshot of the  Character Generator I noticed a nice large area to the right that could display a portrait that you could pick for your Character. I know this is minor but it would give a better connection to the Characters especially if you could make your own portraits. Obviously you would need different age group portraits. Just a suggestion for eventually :-). Thanks for the great game.

Are you thinking cartoon art consistant with the games art or the ability to upload your own custom faces?

IncRaven

First, where is this screen shot showing the new changes?

Also I would like it where we could choice the first three characters faces via upload or draw on something like MS paint. While we all expect some explicit works of art, I think it would be awesome.

I do find it annoying that I can rename my starting three character to whatever I want but not anyone else afterward.

I think a bit of randomness is a good thing in a game like this. I personally don't rename any of my characters and I find that I learn to love (or hate) the characters that I have even if I didn't love thier names to begin with.

As for the colonists that show up later they shouldn't be customized since you didnt start out controlling them anyways. They are truly random.

I'd like to see portraits for characters in the style of the rest of the art. Also have you guys noticed that there isnt much in the way of skin tone difference for the characters. Not a big deal but I did notice it the other day

Getting enough variation within the portraits would be a laborious task, but I completely support the idea. I'd also like to see the portrait appear whenever I click on the character within the world.

Could be a laborious task but for a hired artist thats kind of what you are there for. Bring the world to life through visuals. I believe Prison Architect has individual portraits for its characters and there is a good variation in them as well. I do see it as more of the polishing of the game stage of it.

You wouldn't necessarily need to create a bunch of unique portraits...you could have a library of cartoon eyes, mouths, hair, skintones, etc that get plopped on a cartoon head. If the art keeps its current low-res style and the portraits were mainly kept small I think it would work fine, and you'd have a wide variety of faces.

Heck, if time and resources allowed, the features could even change to match the colonist's current mental state...e.g. happy, neutral, mental breakdown, incapacitated.

Or like in Zafehouse Diaries, only 10/20 portraits already added and the possibility to add some more from your own library.

This could work for both avatars and in-game sprites. All for it!
