Why do friendly visitors not help colonists in need of rescue?

If, however, they're missing a leg, you can't operate on them, so they're just there forever unless you find an inventive way to euthanize them.

Ouch. Haven't had that yet. Unfortunate.

Figured you could pegleg them or something.

Heh, I made the mistake of rescuing one, not realizing her leg was shot off.

Now she's a medical bed potato eating up resources with no hope of rescue or repair. I can't fix her leg without capturing her and pissing off her tribe, and I'm too nice to let her starve to death. Someone really needs to take her off my hands.

Since this is just an unfinished feature, I think it would be justified if you use the development mode to give her a bionic leg  :P

I once had a mechanoid raid started as I was assaulting a ship part (ty Randy). As I realised my chances are pretty low I called for help. Being in despair, I did it 3 times so 3 groups of friendlies were spawned. But by the time they got to my base, all 20 of my colonists were dead or incapacitated. The friendlies killed all the mechs, dangled around for a few minutes and then left. That all is despite the fact there was a dosen of my colonists bleeding out here and there.
I think it would be really nice if friendlies would try to resque incapacitated colonists. Bring them to a medical bed, heal them with player's medicine, feed them until there is a colonist capable of walking and feeding. They're your allies, after all!
Such behavior would only make sence if the faction is really loyal to you, tho. And if they are not some immoral pirates that would take away all goodies they can find as you are helpless.

This is right along the lines of that I saw happen to me, and it just seemed so natural that they would do a minimal sort of rescue.

Okay, just to clear things up:

In Alpha 9 and previous, NPCs never help anyone for any reason.

In Alpha 10, they are supposed to be able to carry off wounded from their own faction (only) when they leave the map.
Oh, so they'll still mill about and watch anyone else die.

Yeah. It's still a game, so I guess the AI isn't supposed to play it for you. I guess the point is for you to be responsible for your own subjects.
Well, I don't expect the AI to play for me and I don't think that a moral (as opposed to the various immoral visitors) friendly visitor would stand by and watch a friendly bleed to death while making idle conversation with his companion visitors.

This sort of discord tends to be avoided (at least attempted to be avoided) in most all games and fictional media at large.

I'm not saying they should rescue the colonist who is ostensibly their friend, although this is what I expected to happen before witnessing this. But if they arn't going to, they should probably leave or have some psychopathic epiphany and start acting like the immoral factions.

Darkhymn

It would be nice to see them at least haul someone to an existing medical bed if available. Seems like a reasonable trade-off for the dozens of friendlies I generally rescue and return home hale an healthy.

Korvus Redmane

Could there maybe be a sort of trade, so if you've healed or rescued one of theirs they will heal or rescue one of yours? It seems odd that you wouldn't help the guys that help you earlier, but I can kinda see why you might not help the guys that bribed your faction into liking them as they've not proved that they would help you in the same situation.
It's about the journey, not the destination!

Of course, some people go further than others and some people end up as hats...

Given that the allies' medicine trait is likely not as high as my doctor's, I'd rather they just haul injured colonists to a nearby bed and leave it at that.

If you could operate rescued people without the harvest organ options and only with the install part ones all would be fine :)
