Currently, surviving in the Desert biome is way too easy. But imagine crash-landing in one for real - if you can't find shade and water in the next few days, before your survival rations run out - you're as good as dead. Water should definitely be an additional factor, separate from temperature and food.

Unless Tynan plans to pull the dwarf thing and drink only beer.
