I think it would be easy to have multiple planets to crash land on. These are my ideas so far. Based upon sagitarius_2k's idea.
Standard Planet- The standard planet
No Oxygen Planet- Would have to make oxygen generator (sagitarius_2k's idea.)
Water Planet- Lots of water type stuff. You might land on a rock and have to build out from there
Poison Planet- Toxic Fallout would be common but would usually be shorter, poisonous plants, food and animals
Dead Planet- No sun, no life. Just rock.
Hostile Planet- Everything there is hostile. From plants, to animals, to people.
Radioactive Planet- Areas outside of buildings would be deadly with rads.
Lava Planet- Always hot. 100+ degrees. You must build a cooler fast.
Mechanoid Planet- Most factions would consist of intelligent mechanoids. Maybe even mechanoid animals instead of living ones?
EMP Planet- No electronics can be used.

I have had similar ideas to this. One difference is that these planets would only be accessible once you get a spaceship up and running, and that you start with the colonists that you send (and the items they are wearing). The idea would be to provide extra challenge modes for experienced players, maybe some continuity for those who wanna know what happens to those who manage to escape the first planet.

Oh the irony, Crashed on a RImworld, labor for two years to build a space ship from scraps, finally leave the planet only to immediately crashed on a different world. It's Aline 3 all over again. No wonder these guys prefer to stay in their cave and fight off Pirates.

I like it. Really, I'd just like more diversity in general to worlds and biomes and plants. I like how DF has gone a bit more down this route, and you have evil biomes, and you have a lot more variety in plants, oh and things like rivers and coasts and lakes.

I love this idea.

Would be cool to have them as unlockables for various game endings.

Perhaps if you did certain things, like surviving a toxic fallout, you would get a planet? In this case you would probably unlock the poison planet.

I'm not saying that this idea is bad, but i think that for now we have Starbound for these things, i would like to see this in game though, but this will take a looot of work.

Depending on the planet. Planets like the hot or cold planets would be easy to implement.

Not really.

1. Why you need cold/hot planets? Biomes aren't enough (and more logicial btw)?
2. Because two planets can't have that same flora and fauna every planet would need to have another plants and animals (even two cold planets would be diferent).
3. Tynan would need to add really flying ship and flying mechanic (fuel etc.)

In general - he would need to do almost everything what devs of Starbound did in last years.

1. PLANETS ARE COOLER, plus some biomes wouldn't make sense unless they were a planet, like no air

3. No, it would be more practical and better to just choose planets when you choose where to land.

1. Cooler than ice sheet biome? Ok, so Tynan will also need to add a new clothes for extra cold.

2. True??? If yes then like you see this will be a lot of work. Just go to Starbound page and look at realese date and what you can find in game (let's play etc). Creating planets takes a lot of work.

3. This type of system would suck + for now there is no ships in Rimworld. You only need to build ship parts, all walls etc are useles. So Tynan would also need to rebuild ships system, because after landing on another planet 50% of your ship would disappear.
