Linux and game performance

I had a conversation with support about this and as a result I upgraded to Mint 22.0
(Btw. dear support guy, if you read this - I found my player.log file (at least I think I did). Only for some reason it is called rimworld_log_1000 and is located in the tmp directory. I get to see it, when I load a dodgy mod which triggers the debug log on the main menu and then click the small "files" button on the bottom.)

Performance is a million times better now, but still sluggish and laggy as all hell once I get to 20 or so colonists and a few lightweight mods (or any mod at all from vanilla expanded).

I read other guys praising the performance they get under Linux, but the old windows 10 machine i had with a GTX 1060 GPU and a coffee lake CPU still runs Rimworld much better than my new i14700 with RTX 4070 under Mint 22.0

So what gives?

I am not married to Mint either, so if you can recommend another distribution I'd be all ears (eyes actually). I just thought with Ubuntu being kind of THE mainstream distribution and Mint a derivative of it I'd be covered on that side.

Of course I am willing to provide any additional information you might want to see.
