1. No special circumstances.
2. Two pawns started a fight over an insult. Both were full health and healthy prior to this. During the course of the fight, one of the pawns killed the other.
3. I would expect the fight to be over with only bruises and cracks. But if this is working as intended, there should be a much higher social penalty for killing a fellow colonist, closer to -100 instead of the current -10 IMHO.
4. I have no idea, but I can send the save and world files upon your request. I have since arrested the manslaughterer and the dead pawn is still on the map (buried).

I'm not using mods that change the core game significantly, let alone social behavior.

Would you consider this a bug?

Social fights are almost unavoidable. I don't expect to have a colonist die from one unless I as the user/player.... Did something wrong! Like did not treat previous injuries and the social fight involved an extremely weak colonist on the bridge of death already etc. Something out of the norm that could have been prevented. I'm obviously not a developer of any kind let alone part of the Rimworld Bug/Dev Team. But I would consider this either a bug or balancing issue. But I'm wondering how rare this event is? And of course mods can have effects on things you may not suspect. You may want to post a mod list to see if any could be the cause.

For someone to die certain parts of the body have to reach 0HP right? Could random bruises unluckily all stack on a certain body part and caused the death?

The colonists were 100% healthy on all accounts. The fight started in my dining room. No special circumstances that I could think of. The fight started as a social fight, and not as a mental condition. I'd say it is extremely rare occurrence. One of the pawns was a much better melee fighter than the other, also equipped with full kevlar apparel - don't know if this may have contributed.

Accidental death happens in RimWorld just like real life.  It depends on what is hit, and how hard.  For death to occur, a vital body part must be destroyed (ie. brain, heart, liver, etc).

Check the health tab for the dead colonist.  That'll give you a sort of autopsy report and you'll know how/why they died.  And if you're lucky, you might get a piece of art about it! ^_^

Sounds reasonable. I actually don't mind - I was just wondering if it is OK. Still think the relationship penalty is inadequate. She was the mother of one of the colonists for goodness sake, but even if she wasn't it wouldn't be okay.

milon

Agreed.  A death should be rare, and should carry a large penalty IMO - but I haven't tested either.

It's not really a bug. However in the next release there will be a few more "killed X" thoughts affecting opinion of the killer.
