Colonist Selection Groups

As a fairly new player to RimWorld, I find it difficult to keep track of who can do what. In combat situations I often find myself clicking through each person to see what weapon they have equipped.

My idea is numbered groups that disallow people in one group to be added to a second group. When somebody dies while grouped, they should automatically be removed from the group. They should be accesable easily by a key press or combination (such as alt + 1 to select group 1, or ctrl + alt + 1 to create a group from the currently selected colonist). Clearing the group should be as easy, perhaps select the group (alt + 1) then press something like ctrl + alt + 0. Even a menu for this would be acceptable.

In my case it, I would like to create a group for ranged, one for melee and one for pacifist. I asked about this in IRC as it seems like I was just missing something. A suggestion I got was to put different colored clothing on people. This would help quite a bit but it still requires a lot of manual clicking each time you want to select a group for something.

I  agree. there needs to be some kind of quick grouping feature.

Great suggestion. This would really help you to keep all of the "fighters" together, and group them up quickly.

I like this idea, so far the only way I'm able to easily classify my pawns is by assigning them different outfit groups, so I know all my pawns with Dusters are brawlers, all my pawns with Jackets are hunters, pawns without any type of coat are Workers, etc. but that has it's limits
