Tunneling Worms

I was reading the infestation thread and had a thought I would like to share. An event for mountain regions where cavern creating worms emerge would tickle my "Tremors" itch.

Various different ideas:
- have them eat through rock and poop out compressed rock, so as not to make them eat away all the rock in the map or something else
- they mainly exist in the underground, you seem to already have a layer underground in the game where deep drillers pull resources from, would be freaking cool if your scanner/deep driller could detect tunnel worms and/or ..... wake them up
- different kinds of worms, harmless ones, special maneating ones, ones you can hunt for rare resources ect.....

Just my 2cents, Cheers!

Perhaps they have a chance to spit the chunks as they burst from the ground to feed? With a smaller chance a material or rare metal will come out too? Would be a fairly decent reason to let one or two roam about the map. Maybe they are attracted to noise in closed spaces, so large singular compounds, mountain bases, or deep drills can attract their wrath?

Love the idea though, could be a late game pain, early game death, and a skilled players friend!  Though for sure they would have to be untamable like i believe megaspiders are?
Anyone else felt their heart break when a pawns marriage falls apart?
Doc & Valarie, I shipped it, she flipped it.

ooo I really like your idea, perhaps some for of a trap door spider on the map would be sweet too.... You see all this blood in an area but no corpses .... then start think to yourself what happened .... then in an instant a large spider like creature pops out snags a bunny and the only thing left is a pile of blood ..... this would work great with the path avoid mod

I wouldn't like dune-scaled ones that can swallow your entire colony,

but there was a horror flick once where there were huge worms like that and it was AWESOME.
Totally the thing.

Can't walk on sand!

But this also brings the question of... if every rimworld is the same.
Ideally there should be many types of planets, and some threats only exist on some of them.

Otherwise you'll have this nonsensical crap where every single playthrough you have volcanic winters, blights, infestations, giant worms, psychic ships, psychic drones.
Ideally there would be a lot more stuff but only some applicable to each playthrough

Hmm, perhaps this event can replace another? You get infestation OR 'diggers' (the worms).

Or maybe diggers appear and replace mechanoids (as id imagine a target you can only hit while its attacking would be harder to kill)

For example, if a mechanoid event triggers, it forever blocks diggers, but if diggers trigger first it blocks mechanoids and raises infestation chance- to simulate that bugs crawl all over on this planet.
