Game updates and save backups

So I recently purchased RimWorld. So far, I am loving every minute of it and can't pull myself away!
However, that's off-topic. I made this thread for help about the game.
When a new update is available for RimWorld, must I backup my world(s) and/or save(s) before re-downloading the game? If so, how do I go about doing this?

Another thing, is there a way I can change the email of which the game update notifications get sent to?

If you would like me to explain anything further then don't hesitate to ask, as I can sometimes seem unclear (as I'm told).

For the email, all you need to do is message or email Tynan and he should be able to sort something out with you.

As for backing up worlds, you often need to recreate your world to make use of the newest features, But if you want to continue to play on the older version you should still be fine, the save directory isn't replaced.
