So, I did the thing the game explicitly warns you not to do, which is disabling the Core Mod, just to see what would happen. It was a bit more total than I expected; now, no how many times I unzip a new RimWorld363, the game won't run. How do I fix this?

go into the save game folder (in windows it is in the (windows vista & later) users/(your windows user name)/appdata/LocalLow/ludion studios/rimworld and either rename or delete the 'ModsConfig.xml' file or even EDIT the file in notepad/wordpad/notepad++ adding back the <li>Core</li> line,
for mac & linux( do not run them so can not advise), sorry you will have to find where the save cames are and see of the 'ModsConfig.xml' file is in there and alter or delete it

Nasikabatrachus

I found ModsConfig.xml; it's where the wiki says it is in Max OS X.

Here's what it looks like right now:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ModsConfigData>
  <activeMods />
</ModsConfigData>

What do I change?

Toad

ADD
<li>Core</li>
where it says Active mods

Thanks.

For anyone else who has the same problem, it should look like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ModsConfigData>
  <activeMods> <li>Core</li> </activeMods>
</ModsConfigData>

Or just delete the ModsConfig.xml file; relaunching the game will have it recreate a new ModsConfig.xml file with Core listed by default.

StorymasterQ

Should the game explicitly disallow disabling Core? Perhaps something like not actually including it in the list of Mods, as it's not really a Mod.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

There is no appdata folder in my users folder :S .. Windows 7. Odd.

harpo99999

in windows, the appdata folder is a HIDDEN folder, please turn ON the 'show hidden folders' in your 'folder options' in 'control panel' before posting again(btw have had 6 standard drinks in the last hour to relax after a mildly stressful day of flunking potential university graduates( favourite score is '0 not relevent, re-do all research from beginning, this time make sure it is relevent to project, see you next year'))

Jbennett - Click button with "windows on it" (WinKey) + R [at the same time!]. Then write "%appdata%, you should be in the "roaming" folder, go back to AppData, select LocalLow -> Ludeon Studios -> RimWorld -> Config and delete the ModsConfig file.

And by the way - i don't care.

Thanks! I had disabled it to try and fix this.. sadly it i still broke. I just downloaded 10f today and this is what happens if I try and make a new colony (tried making new worlds, same problem). No mods enabled except for Core.

Adamiks

You had some mods or changes in core on this world, because there is no weapon like this in Core (Gun_Winchester_M1907_PA   PA=Project Armory).

Maybe delete/move worlds/saves/configs from RimWorld and then create a new world?
