Hi Tynan i just checked Ludeon.Com and found out new update is out with brand new animals and breeding and few other nice functions.I was really hyped about it mainly when i saw that animals can breed and be pregnant. One thing i dont understand though, like if you already implented the breeding and pregnancy for animals, why not add it for pawns too?Otherwise im really happy about update i have 2 Alpacas and the female one is already in middle stage of pregnancy then i have Rhino, husky and 2 female muffalos.Keep up the good work and i hope in future we will see pawn breeding too.

Gameplay related issues.

Pawn breeding is a heavily discussed and frequently suggested feature. Just a quick glance at any post in the suggestions forum would answer your questions as to probably why not.

I really saw no reason not to reading those threads honestly. Most of those that were against it(not many) just didn't like the idea of kids being in the game for some reason. DF makes it work perfectly fine.

how do i harvest the alpacas?? and my world is coruped they dont breed sigh guese im starting over

Tynan

Human pregnancy and mating is easy enough. The difficult part is simulating children. E.g. you'd need entirely new kinds of graphics for them, entire new classes of apparel and beds, new carer behaviors, etc etc.

I thought you said it was because you knew we'd eat them. ;)

Your world is corrupted? Well yeah you probably have to start over with a corrupted save...  Harvesting Alpaca's happens automatically. You simply need to tame them and have them linger about for awhile, and any pawn set to handle animals will automatically sheer them when their wool percentage reaches 100%, it's the same with milk and wool from all other animals. And in order for them to breed you'll need a male and a female in the same area and after awhile they'll mate and you'll find out about it somewhere in the middle-stage of pregnancy

yea iev tamed them but thanks for the help yea and i know about the male and female thing its relly not fun to have to do that. and Tynan the kids skills will depend on who there care giver is lets say a builder they get better depending on how good the builder is and the mogarty of the work done. so basicly its better when they have multy care givers IDK if you were all redy thinking of that :)

A lot of work to implement them.. And how much would they really add to the game I wonder? Would you compress the time it takes them to grow up? The game already has a system of time and despite it's accelerated pace I can't imagine many colonies will last long enough for children born in them to grow up at near adulthood. Meanwhile they consume resources all these years and possible subject to enduring a gruesome death, be it accidental or on purpose to remove non contributing members of society. Because of that reason, children in Dwarf Fortress often end up being used as a sort of... Ablative armor...  ;D

Retexture the old Boomrats and throw a lil smiley face on there.... there's your infant.

As for children... well donno but the boomrat thing is money for sure  8)

Verisimilitude

There is no anti-contraceptives in our Rimworld colonies. Human nature would take its course relatively quickly. Of course, in times of stress, fertility often drops, but people getting pregnant in a survival situation, especially one where they spend multiple years in, or one where they can get relatively comfortable, isn't exactly some far-fetched idea

I don't think validity is the issue here. It's about implementation and cost vs. gain.
