Hello everyone!

Firstly, I want to apologize for my English, unfortunately, I have not mastered it sufficiently and sometimes I can make mistakes.

If you do not understand something of what I have written below, please write about it, I'll try to explain in other words! Thank you!

I'm a big fan of our favorite game which is called RimWorld, and I played this game a lot. I love the concept of the game, its idea, macro and micromanagement. I love this game, because it has made each member of the colony, in a living person with desires, abilities, needs to communicate with each other and the world around them. And the world also live their lives around the colony.

But there is one thing that makes me a little upset and depress. The game ultimately comes down to the fact that you have to survive with every wave of attacks on you, until you escape from the planet. But I dream not to leave the planet, but survive with it. It is even possible, capture new territories, expand the planet, create defensive alliances, or even unites for attacks on another colony. I send my own caravans to other colonies to sell or buy goods at the cheapest prices, in spite of all the risks on their way. The need for several colonies is in the idea like, lets say, if your colony based in the north, you do not have the necessary resources for the future development, which has in the central part of the planet, or in the south, and you have to send your people find it, but again, its really risky.

In this case, I see the end of the game, due to the fact that you became the ruler of the planet, and you getting tired of it. But in this case, the Event may occur, and an alien race will attack my colony to subjugate, makes us slaves, and take away, or something else. Or other my colonies wanted to become independent, and they starts war with me. Or a plague came, and half of the planet simply dies. But just do not force me to leave the planet and end the game.

In other words, I just want to say that I am not happy with the idea that I somehow, but I have to leave the planet, because each wave of attacks on me getting more and more stronger.

If someone agrees with me, please write and we all think on this subject, and we will help to our dearly beloved developer to make the game even better!

Thank you for taking your time to read the text!

First of all, your English is better than many native English speakers, so don't worry about that. :)

I too see RimWorld more as a game of colonists who wish to stay than survivors who wish to leave.  But no matter how the game works or what features are added, the game eventually has to end. Otherwise it would get stale and boring. So I really don't know what the answer is, but I'm all for planet exploration and faction relations and stuff.

i think the game can cater to both leaving or staying anyways.

people who "wants to leave" already have all the features they needed for doing that the moment tynan added the spaceship.

so i think any further alphas beyond the introduction of the spaceship was mostly geared towards the people who "wants to stay".

like pets, relationships, art, land traders, colony impressiveness, joy, etc.. these features seem to cater more to the permanent colony playstyle.

-----------

basically, i think tynan has already gone above and beyond his call of duty, if the sole purpose of the game is for people to escape the planet. he could probably stop development now after he throws this game into steam.

but i think that's gonna be a waste if he stopped development.

i think rimworld has the potential to reach and exceed the classic games like minecraft or DF.

so having an "ending" available is fine, but it doesn't mean the game has to end.

----------------

for example :

i could probably keep making dozens of spaceships, sending dozens of people into space and keep playing until my colony dies..

and then start a "new game plus" and then load a list of the groups of people i launched into space to start a new colony.

ie : if i sent around 8 people on my first spaceship "serenity", i can then load that group of characters and then crash land again somewhere.

so a game can serve BOTH purpose. it could allow players to send more people into space and at the same time, it let's players play a colony for as long as they want.

win x win

I like the idea of endgame options (and LOVE the idea of New Game Plus) but I agree here that the space ship is sufficient. If anything, I would want to see the space ship ending expanded on more, because the move to credits is very underwhelming.

A way to make closure but keep your colony would be nice, if anyone has good suggestions, but it also seems to go against the purpose of the game. For me, I just stop playing, start a new save and make up an ending in my head.

Thank you guys for that you find this subject interesting for discussion!

Thank you, milon for your kind words! :)

Yes, I agree, if the game is infinite, it can be boring. But it seems to me that in recent years, quite small number of people really played to the end, many people simply stop when they get bored or start a new game save, maybe on new difficulty.

I want to say that now in games of this genre or similar ones, the end is not important, important the process of the game. Especially in the game like RimWorld, it is particularly important process of the game, and I'm inclined to think that the end of the game you define for yourself by yourself, after all, not for points we are all playing, I believe.

I highly agree with the statement that our game has huge potential, and I agree that as an alternative to the end of the game is already invented, it is simply to leave the planet. But another/main option as a continuation of the domination of the planet will be in the future. As just mentioned, it would be too sad to ruin the potential of this game and to dwell on what has already achieved in terms of the goal of the game.

Below I offer some of my scenarios/ideas if the player chooses to stay on the planet:

1. Since our main colony is tied to a particular meridian hemisphere, so we can have the next option. If your colony based in the north, you do not have the necessary resources for the future development of your colony/faction, which has in the central part of the planet, or in the south, or whatever it is, so you have to send your people find it, but again, its risky, or just trade with other factions from other side or biomes.

2. When the game will decided, that we are strong enough, the event can occur, and as a result of which, a alien troops landed for search of slaves, or some galactic nation troops landed to build the base, with the idea colonize whole planet, or some a race of robots that was created to destroy all life, came to the planet to fulfill its mission.

3. The raid system of other factions, cities, caravans, or even space ships that flying by.

Each of us can write our own wishes/vision for the development of what they would be happy, and maybe some of them might be really to be selected and added to the game, who knows, the main thing is just start, I believe!

As i said in a topic of mine i believe the ending should be there as it is, only harder to achieve. Right now you can achieve it in one generation and it doesn't make sense that you're able to create an entire spaceship this fast (four people working with their hands while they're mining, harvesting, defending themselves, etc etc). I would want the end-game to be so far away that you would get a feeling of "achieving the impossible" when you finally do it. Also, until you get to that point, it would be like the "staying" ending in your poll.

Kegereneku

Did someone ask for ENDING ? I propose you ENDING plural.
"Sam Starfall joined your colony"
"Sam Starfall left your colony with all your valuable"
-------
Write an Event
[Story] Write an ending ! (endless included)
[Story] Imagine a Storyteller !

this is actually a really nice idea, making the game really hard to win even on lower difficulties so that it stays challenging for a long time.

1. Please make people unable to move through deep waters. I don't like raiders cosplaying Jesus.

I just like maintaining the colony - running a farm, dealing with events. I have no interest in ending that by building a space-ship. I might do it some day if I find myself with a glut of steel but I'd save first so I can reload and just continue my colony.

@Kegereneku

Great ideas, i will reply to that topic too.

@Jonofwrath

What i'm suggesting covers your gameplay needs. The way i see it you would need to play for ages before you would be able to even consider building the ship. Actually, you would even be the planet's dominant colony by then (so it would only be fair to win at that point and not earlier).
