Room size: How about we re-define "cramped"?

6x6 is  a huge room. I'm glad that it gives bonuses but there's no in between.

I have prison cells that are 3x6 and everyone screams they are "cramped". They have a bed a (modded) 1x1 table with chair, light and a heater.

.... well if a room that's 3x6 isn't generous enough for you, how about we DF this and give you that 1x2 room, hm?
I mean, if it's the same debuff....

Have I just not been paying attention? Is there anything in between a 1x2 and a 6x6?
Seems like there should be a "standard" room that gives no debuffs and no positives while the 6x6 gives positives. There should be tiers all the way down to the 1x2.

I agree. The current cramped room system thing is weird.

i agree, i actually mod the "cramped" into "cosy" and give it a +1mood. sadly i dont have the skillz to add an additional cramped for smaller rooms..... whait a second.... ill just scale all of em down and just "loose" the largest one.... or one in the middle.... which would be the "normal" without an effect!
cya, gotta get my notepad on. ;)
edit: crap... forgot i cant change the roomsizes that trigger the thoughts.... so no cramped enviroments for me.... :(

5X5 comes up as average. But I agree there should be a smoother scaling.

Why do you listen to organ donors?

I think the scariest thing about this whole system is that if you enable room stats and hover over a 6x6 bedroom, it is listed as "average sized".

...so I'm guessing all rooms are the same. The game does not care about the difference between a dining hall and a bedroom, it just calculates size all the same.
Which means that for "Perfect happiness" for a bed room would be to just duplicate your dining hall for each person's bedroom.
That's insane. No real life bedroom is that big. We EXPECT our bedrooms to be smaller than our kitchens or the rec room or the dining hall. Or maybe the game is expecting you to build individual houses instead of bedrooms?

Sounds like a ton more work, but since the game labels these things and knows what each room is, maybe some individual parameters for room sizes would be great.
Something like:
Dining Hall Large: 15x15
Dining Hall Average: 12x12
Dining Hall Small: 10x10

Prison/Bedroom Large: 6x6
Prison/Bedroom Average: 6x3
Prison/Bedroom: 4x4

Workshop Large: 8x8
Workshop Average: 6x6
Workshop Small: 5x5

The only thing that seems normal is the barn sizes.

Room size is not the only factor. A pawn standing in a corner will have a much lower "space bar" than a pawn standing in the middle of the room.

All of my bedrooms are 5x6. For other rooms, minimum size is 5x6, but I will usually make them at least 7x7 or  9x9. For workshops and dining rooms, even bigger. 9x11 at least. For storage rooms, max possible size.

This obviously works best if the rooms are connected properly to minimize travel time.
