Devilstrand removed from hydroponics?

I know everyone says that you should never grow devilstrand in hydroponics (due to the high likelihood of failure when a solar flare hits).  But I was bored so I thought I would try it anyway -- only to discover it's not available.  And yes, I do have devilstrand researched.  So was it removed to prevent new players from going nuts when their crop got wiped out?  Or some other reason?
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

I checked the patch notes to see why they remove it, I didn´t find the answer.
But with hydroponics breakdown and solar flare, devilstrand is the worst thing ever to plant on hydroponics!
Even on fertile soil, something I almost don´t have on the desert, it takes too long to grow, so I don´t plant it on fertile soil, and on infertile soil, it takes almost 2 years to grow!

It was never really sustainable - you're almost guaranteed to get a Zzzt... before they can be harvested and then it's bye bye devilstrand. I guess it was removed because it's pointless.

On the other hand you can create a room around fertile soil and then put a sunlamp into it and then just plant devilstrand and other plants in the soil around the sunlamp.

Actually it seems like this actually is a better solution even for the crops you can plant in hydroponic basins (except rice) as it gives you safety from shortouts (crops will survive if just the sunlamp goes off for a day to solar flares) and a bigger Bonus (IIRC normal crops just give you 115% growth in hydroponic basins, compared to 140% in fertile soil ... only exception= rice with 235% in hydroponic basins)

I already have two farming rooms on rich soil.  I'm putting hydroponics into the third.  Growth rate of hops in rich soil is 116% vs 152% in hydroponics.  I assumed that the result for devilstrand would be the same.

I suppose I could put my rice in the hydroponics and the devilstrand and hops in the rich soil but that's no where near as fun :)
