Feasibility to build a multiplayer mod?

Hey all,

I was curious how feasible it is to add real-time multiplayer to this game. How are the colonists sync'd up engine wise in game?
Feel free to go as technical as possible, I'm thinking of a few possible implementations and just want to see what could be possible.

Do we get access to that level of the engine? I'm pretty new to Unity as well.

I was under the impression that's systems level.

What would be the point? What would be the goals of multiplayer?
Everybody asks this, but multiplayer in this game would be pointless.

What's the goal of this game period? The entire game is "pointless" by that standard.
