guilty admission, I pirated the windows version of the game and was absolutely hooked. I could only find a16 for windows so I have been playing the game on a windows dual booting laptop.
I decided to to buy the game, and as my main OS is linux mint 18.1 I installed steam and rimworld on linux mint and fired it up ...
it brings up a window for a split second then disappears, no error message. so I ran steam from the terminal and this is what I get when it crashes.

If anyone has an idea on how to fix this i would very much appreciate it!

Greetings. Frankly, with all the grief Steam is giving to RimWorld, you should get a refund from Steam, and buy it directly from https://rimworldgame.com/ instead. You can get the Steam key anyway if you buy the drm-free version.
I have never touched Steam on Linux, but it looks like Steam is trying to run a 32-bit version of RimWorld instead of 64-bit for some reason.
I am glad you have abandoned your pirate ways, welcome to the colony.

I bought RimWorld off Steam last week and installed it on my Mint 18.1 Cinnamon machine with no issues or warnings whatsoever but I have updated the Linux Kernel to 4.4.0-59.

I am not familiar with Linux error reports at all as I would classify myself as a Casual user but if there is anything I can check or compare for you, feel free to PM me.

I have no idea what an ELFCLASS is, but it seems to not like your computer.

Did you purchase the DRM free version instead?
