Quests/situations tied to research level

If I'm a caveman, give me some appropriate quests. Maybe a limited view on the world map or even a questline that lets me increase tech levels.

If you're a caveman, that doesn't necessarily mean your neighbors are cavemen.

If your neighbors aren't cavemen, logic implies you won't be a caveman for long, either through trading for or stealing technology, or being wiped out by said technology.

Your neighbors are the ones who give you quests.  they don't care if you're a caveman, they still need certain things, and will offer you payment based on what THEY need, not what you might actually be able to supply.  Similarly, they still have threats that need dealing with, and have no problem paying you to take them out, no matter your actual odds of success (at worst, you might soften them up for your neighbors!).

Lastly, the game is balanced around the crash survivors scenario...the tribal start is a voluntary "hardmode."  Features are balanced to not be instant game-over situations for tribals (to a degree) but the pace of the game won't change for tribal starts, or it ceases to actually be a hardmode and just becomes a differently paced game mode.
