Yeah I guess that's the negativity of it.

I don't know if traders are different from allied military, but I usually call in military aid for thrumbos and have them kill them for me.

Saving the downed friendlies and patching them up then letting them go often leads to a net gain of reputation.

As an example: it costs -25  to call in military aid.  They have 4 people killed which is another -20.
They have 4 people downed that I can save, and the rest get out on their own. Saving those 4 gives 15*4 = +60 reputation, so on the whole, it's a big profit operation. On top of this 1500 silver for the horn and about 500 for the fur, and a few hundred meat.
