Hello,

I was getting ready to play the new update after being away and my game gives me this crash report the moment it starts up. I am using Steam to run it, and once the dialog box that says "Preparing to launch RimWorld..." closes, it gives me a crash notice. It appears that I have no memory free or it is an access violation.

RimWorldWin.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
  in module RimWorldWin.exe at 0023:010fdf61.

Error occurred at 2017-11-19_180100.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RimWorld\RimWorldWin.exe, run by Anon.
37% memory in use.
0 MB physical memory [0 MB free].
0 MB paging file [0 MB free].
0 MB user address space [3808 MB free].
Read from location 00000000 caused an access violation.

I saw a similar thread from March 17 of this year, but there was no information on how to actually fix it.

Thanks

The log file gives the following error as the cause of the crash:

d3d: failed to create device [device lost]
Crash!!!

Which suggests the issue is with your GPU, or more precisely, your GPU drivers. So:

1 - Please check that your AMD drivers are up to date.
2 - If that doesn't resolve this then try going to your AMD control panel and checking that the GPU is being allowed to automatically choose the settings when launching programs / launching RimWorld (as sometimes this error can be caused because the user has globally forced/disallowed certain settings which are incompatible with the game).
3 - If that doesn't work either then please try installing A17b to see if that works (you can access previous versions of the game on Steam via the Beta tab).
4 - If none of the above work then please can you post the results of a dxdiag**

Finally, you said you've been away a while so when was the last time you played the game? weeks? months? a year? (as it's helpful to know when the last time the game worked on your current computer).

** If you don't know how to do this... Press WindowsKey+R to open a run prompt, type "dxdiag", then wait until the dxdiag UI appears, wait again for the little green progress bar in the left hand corner of the UI to finish, then click "Save All Information", and then post the resulting text file as an attachment.

Thank you for the quick response!

I installed new drivers and gave my computer a restart and it worked just fine.

Glad to hear updating your GPU drivers fixed this for you. And thanks for posting again with an update. Much appreciated.
