Caravan issues that remain in 1.0

As someone who's played almost exclusively caravan related campaigns for the last year I'm pretty happy with the improvements to caravanning in 1.0, however there are still a few big issues that aren't resolved.


  • Inability to carry someone/animal when forming a caravan. You can do this if you are reforming, but not when you are initially creating a caravan. If you want to move your base you essentially must abandon animals who can't walk and leave people behind, or you have to wait for them to heal which can take ages. It's also inconstant.
  • Settling down for 15 days in a place you just cleared is wildly OP compared to the challenge of keeping a caravan on the move or even sitting in a base. You don't have events at all? Normal events and colony wealth would be awesome. On the same token only having 24 hours to leave a base after destroying it can be brutal if the raid didn't go smoothly. Maybe an option to permanently settle the base rather than pack up would be doable? Or maybe balancing out these timers from 24 hours and 15 days to something in between for both?
  • It's still potentially game breaking and especially not fun to attempt to move an entirely colony. A single mental break while packing delays the entire endeavor (and there are a million things to pack), which then leads to more mental breaks and this is just a chain reaction of the least fun gameplay ever while all your stuff is half packed and half not and people are soaking wet sleeping in the dirt. A simple solution would be to apply a colony wide buff along the lines of "we're moving to greener pastures!" if you click a new 'abandon colony' button while forming a caravan, which also auto abandons the colony?
  • Could we get the debug 'send everything' button in the default UI? Except it would exclude chunks and corpses. It's pretty cool that you can drag/toggle the colonists into a caravan, but there's no way to bulk toggle inventory that I know of
  • There doesn't appear to be any notification of medical emergencies while in a caravan? Not that I could really do anything about them.

Anyway that's all. I used to hate caravanning with a passion before 1.0, yet I constantly did it for the challenge and change of pace and just suffered through the UI issues. Now it's pretty fun but it's still a tad rough around the edges.
