Getting a lot of conflicting information here about turrets and their ability to gain cover behind sandbags - So which is it exactly. Do they gain cover if you put them next to a sandbag (if the enemy is on the other side of that of course) or are they too big and bulky to gain any cover?

JonoRig

If my understanding is correct, which it probably is not, cover is not gained by an object, more each object a round has to pass increases its chances of missing (as seen when you can get %chances of hitting your target) so sandbags will only allow the bullets to pass it with xx% based on shooting skill, weapon used and distance

Neurotoxin

They do not gain direct cover bonuses from sandbags. Tynan has said it himself. I THINK however that bullets still have a chance to hit the sandbag rather than their intended target so they do get indirect cover. Somebody correct me if that's wrong.

I read somewhere that the wiki is outdated, and that turrets (or any other structure) get no bonuses from sandbags.  Stray bullets hitting sandbags would just hit the ground if the sandbags weren't there...  But, of course, I can't find that post right now...

The weapon doesn't benefit, but if it's a manned station you will need your operator placed behind cover to protect him from damage.

BetaSpectre

It used to provide cover at one time, but Tynan said that they don't get cover bonuses.

Of course sandbags still modify Pawn behavior so its worth considering.

The Wiki has the right info. http://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Improvised_turret

Turrets do not gain cover from sandbags, Tynan confirmed that.
