Forever in Bed

I understand losing a leg keeps you in bed forever, never again able to move, and just eating food without working.  A lesser known injury is being shot in the head.  If the wound is yellow or orange, you will be able to move, just slowly.  If it is red, you are going to be in bed forever.  I have 2 colonists with red brain damage, and none with missing legs.  I refuse to kill them, as they have been with us forever.  I know peg-legs and such can be made, but can the brain ever be fixed?
yes

Bodog999

Sort of "fixed" its more like digging into the save file and removing the injury. If you know how to do that you can edit some stuff man :) if you cant I could do it for you. Just make sure you have a backup ready to go. I've learned that the hard way :/

I mean like an in-game thing, not a fan of "cheating" as much as I wish I was.

hmm, maybe using a reprogrammed AI core could somewhat repair brain damage with some kind of penalty, maybe to intellectual and social related skills? I don't know what the future actually holds for the damage system as far as what you'll be able to replace/repair at all but that would be an interesting idea.

litlbear

The brain's a hard thing to replace unless you do make them into a robot, yeah, and then they really aren't themselves anymore.  It's just a shell of them.

I would be of the opinion that there is nothing that the colonists themselves can do to fix major brain damage. However, there has been some mention that starbound will eventually contain mysterious artifacts that come from Transcendent societies. It would be entirely reasonable for one of these artifacts to completely heal a colonist, even if their wounds would be impossible to recover from under normal circumstances. These kind of devices could have unforeseen side-effects, however.

Side effects are always fun.

This.

Though I'm particularly curious about the side effects...

To be honest you should be able to euthanize these patients and taking a hit to morale does make sense.

However, that said this is the future implants aren't a world away nor are vat grown limbs.
A helmet should go a long way to preventing head wounds though.

The Warhammer 40K fan in me wants to be able to turn colony members that are injured like that into Servitors, they'd be much better at certain tasks (possibly even selecting what kind of roles they would have, so a Construction Servitor etc etc) but require constant recharging and have a negative morale impact on your colonists from being around them

We already having pretty decent breakthroughs in neuroregeneration in our time, so if the brain is damaged, but not fatally, it should be possible to be restored with more advanced technology; especially glitter world tech should be able to fix it, if you're lucky and come over some (at least I'd imagine that would be rare if implemented).

( Link to an example article of current breakthroughs to maybe inspire more of you: http://news.psu.edu/story/298921/2013/12/19/research/neuron-regeneration-may-help-sufferers-brain-injury-alzheimers )

A very rare event that a colonist was completely healed or at least it was so still Alpha5. As this event sięnazywa and how to make it to occur. I myself have prisoners who are unconscious (they have no legs, brain ok) and one who does not speak and can not recruit him in August.
In addition, the slave trader not arrives and left them alive because I wanted to sell them.

We already can undo brain damage of some sort. Of course, you need a master surgeon and ospital facilities; I see no harm in letting a future surgeon fix brain damage.
