If new players are struggling and want some tips from experienced players on how to survive playing the game, or established players want to share more advanced tips, it would be nice to have a Tactics & Strategies forum just for sharing tips on everything from how to set up a base to resource management (such as the merits of different growable crops) to how to deal with enemy snipers (M24-equipped).  This could also serve as a source of information to the developers, of course, to learn what weaknesses in game mechanics are maybe too easily exploited and could use rebalancing, and/or ideas to help make the AI more challenging by using and/or better defending against player strategies.

No reason why not, however the community is small enough to where all discussions could take place in the general discussion forum.

If you can handle a siege for a while, there comes a time when siegers go to sleep.
Send a rifle team (M16, LMG - we want firepower, not snipers) and from a suitable cover, if you have any, or their sandbags, if you have none, AIM FOR THE MORTARS.
If done correctly, they will explode, dealing heavy damage to siegers; they will instantly attack your colony afterwards, so be wary.

Or just steal all their food and watch them starve. You get a bunch of survival meals that you can either sell for 15 bucks, or you can keep them in case of emergencies.

They attack nonetheless, if they are low on food, in my experience.

For siegers, I usually try to hit the food supply with my mortars. It's much more satisfying to watch them starve or bleed to death by shrapnel than anything else.

If you ever get massive lines/clumps of enemies and have an automatic weapon handy, don't let your colonists fire at the enemy in the front/closest. Using the force fire tool, try to fire towards the center/back of the group. Your bullets will typically hit more people, since they are not targets but obstructions on the bullets way to its destination. This also helps if you can't hit someone at a distance but can aim at something behind them.

Build random walls between small hills, to increase your time should attackers decide to attack.

Create lines of dumping zones for stone and slag, then select nearby stones to haul slows fleeing invaders for those last minute pot shots.

Also, build fortification away from your base, but not so close that the attacker can use them against you, or your turrets.
By doing so, you can have a go at them while they are closing by - this is sniper work -, and then retreat to safety, when they are close enough.
I usually build a stone wall of 4 squares, so you can hide behind, in case multiple snipers decide to shoot you back.
For the same reason, raze all possible cover in your turret range, exept the cover needed for your colonist to shoot outward.
