(yes, doctors DO get a lot of chemistry/organic chemistry training)

No more than the average biology undergrad.

They get a fair bit of genetics and a ridiculous amount of pharmacology training to the extent that when it comes to crafting medicine, it's not reasonable to compare them.  Rimworld can't simulate any skilled labor to an extent that would give it justice in reality (you can physically build a space ship in a matter of a few years with < 20 people lol).  However, doctors being better at handling drugs than other jobs is more than reasonable.  They get many dozens of hours learning this stuff (even some time learning how to deal with illegal/recreational drugs, since they have to treat those patients), and they get it before they even make it to their 3rd year of training, long before residence.

No bio undergrad could touch that, and they'd be several inferential distances behind in terms of learning.

Yay! I'm sure it had a design decision long ago, but now its just an artifact that trips up people just learning the game.
Nope.  It's a pretty new mechanic, actually.
Thanks, belgord!

Quite so.

Admittedly, a Bio undergrad could do a drug synthesis just fine; in my opinion, however, we don't have an available skill that matches better than "Doctor".  "Research" makes little sense to me; theoretical and applied sciences are NOT the same beast.

It DOES, on the other hand, make sense to me, that synthesizing drugs might improve (or at least help maintain) a doctor's skills ;).
Thanks, belgord!
