Unharvestable Geothermal Vents

I am finding a lot of geothermal vents that cannot have a Generator built over them because they are right next to marsh or water and the generator cannot be built because no tile of the Generator can go over marsh or water.  I'd like to request for some future version one of the two remedies for this:


  • Map generator logic code which places the geothermal vents to ensure that the geothermal vents will not appear too close to unbuildable terrain (marsh/mud/water/etc.)
  • Permit Generators to be built over otherwise unbuildable terrain, perhaps with extra resource requirements (maybe just raw stone) to build them as platforms; if this option is done, of course, there would also need to be a similar allowance for Power Conduit to be built over otherwise unbuildable terrain as well.

When in doubt change the flooring and this can be done with fertilizer pumps. You could imagine it as a bit of terraforming.
But yeah keeping the vents from spawning in non-buildable locations would be good...

That would be great if we could fill in those marshes with dirt or something. I tried fertilizer pumps, and nothing. Those marshes can kinda ruin a map for me.

They need a lot of power and only do one square a day of something very very slow

Ah, nevermind. They don't work at all with "Fast Ecology." But otherwise they do :)

Now, I've never gotten one unusable because of marshlands, mud or water... but I have had one spawn too close to the edge of the map to build on (by one grid square. Vent->buildable square->map edge proximity line). This was at least one major release ago, though, and I've only seen it once.

I've been getting several frequently on individual games in Boreal Forest.  Its rather aggravating ... one had 4 vents or s team geysers total that I could see on the map, three of them were unbuildable due to having several tiles as mud or outright marsh.  That was aggravating to find.

I got one on seashore once. Never needed it but weird nonetheless.
Also, is the geyser spewing saltwater?
