So this is a game about the realism, yes?  That is why no aliens and limb/organ damage and things of that nature?  So how come I can mine plasteel out of ore veins in a mountain?  That seems FUBAR to me.  Also steel, if we can't find natural steel here on terra firma then it probably isn't a thing.  So for steel we should need to smelt it from iron ingots using wood for fuel.  The use of coal should generate stronger steel, also the skill of the person.  Just look at how they make a Katana, the authentic ones made in Japan, they make the steel in a clay hand built kiln, then sort it by quality by hand, the unsuitable stuff is used for kitchen products with just the good stuff being used to make the blade.  Now I'm down with plasteel being present, but it should only come from trade or things from our busted ship raining down on us.

As you may not be aware, appears to be so, you are mining processed metal left behind by past civilizations, compressed by tectonic movement and/or deposition of material (sedimentary rock).

Cheers and good reading.

I'm pretty certain plasteel is what the crystals in Folgers instant coffee are made of.

Sorry for the necro but Plasteel is pretty much real:

Plasteel, composite of fiberglass and steel patented by automobile manufacturer Gurgel and first used in 1973
