Maia was based more around Dungeon Keeper in general, rather then just dwarf fortress.

Probably, but it resembles RimWorld a lot nonetheless... or at least its concepts (building a colony in an unfriendly place, digging in stone, growing plants, harvesting food, stocking power... the list goes on).

I took a look into both games and must say.. 3D is sooo overrated!
With the first impressions they gave me, I am glad I backed this game rather than any of them.
