help- how to add other plants to hydroponics?

i'm a sucker for diversity, and so it always bothered me that you couldn't grow agave in the hydroponic tables, now with Alpha 9 i have the same problem with corn, and since my colony is on an ice-sheet, growing them outside is not reeeeally an option. so how would one go about adding them?
