Custom Backgrounds

I was wondering if there was any way to access and edit the character backgrounds? I mainly want to add some backgrounds to the list to use with the Edb Prepare Carefully mod. I saw a post from early last year that asked the same thing, but I figured that there have been many updates since then it'd be worth asking again.
