Surgeon in question was an 8, not the best.

He was installing some dentures.
Next thing I know the patient's torso, stomach, and right leg are bleeding our and this is skit is what came to mind.

Always cracks me up when you catastrophically fail to... remove a scyther knife protrusion.

What a catastrophic failure! :P
A prison yard is certainly a slightly more elegant solution to Cabin Fever than mine...

I just chop their legs off... legless prisoners don't suffer cabin fever

Panzer

Haha, love Monty Python ;D glad to hear catastrophic failure doesnt outright kill your colonist.

Yeah noticed that too, played around a bit with the dev mode and the minor surgery fail tool when this happened... like, seriously? Brain removal by accident?  :o

This needs some tuning, the consequences are far too random, had a scarred brain the other day when I was installing a peg leg, cracks me up, but Tynan please, I dont want to die of laughter ;D

I could understand someone accidentally the whole torso if they were pulling out a kidney, but some of the failures are just hilarious.
Installing a bionic leg and accidentally removing the brain for instance, how does that even happen? is my Surgeon a wizard?

I always assume it's some sort of clerical error.. Like the surgeon has been given the wrong order.

"Replace that leg" somehow gets turned into " Remove his brain " somewhere down the line :P

It is kinda funny. I had a guy with a peg leg. I bought a prostetic leg and went on installing it. In the process the patient lost an eye so I had to replace it with a bionic equivalent- ofcourse while putting it in the surgeon made an erroneous slash and cut the patients arm off. And so on- after a few of those  I had a wooden cyborg :)

StorymasterQ

Maybe something like the old nurse jokes?

"Oh, dear, I may have got things mixed around. You wanted me to prick his boil?"
"A nurse realized she has a rectal thermometer in her pocket. She goes, 'Ah, some asshole's got my pen.'"
"What's the difference between a rectal and an oral thermometer? Taste."
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

Oh my, a wooden cyborg. You just made my day xD

MrSurvivor

Okay this needs to be toned down.
Food poisoning I understand by uncooking things but SERIOUSLY TAKING OFF A LEG INSTEAD OF AN ARM!?
People aren't THAT stupid I guess but seriously it should just be like stomach to torso or intestine, not all the way across the body...

I'd rather stick to the way like it is, especially now when colonists can get wasted and perform operations like... in Surgeon Simulator style maybe?

I would like to see a balance pass on this and clean up these failures to be more in line with something related, such as working on replacing a leg and you end up cutting an artery wide open for major blood loss.

Fixing an eye and you "slip" with your tool / blade and kill the patient.

Cutting off an arm and "oh woops!" forgot that anesthesia... patient went into shock and developed a new trait.

lots of fun things you could do, but it needs to make a little bit of sense.

Do surgeries really need to have a chance to go bad at all? Doesn't seem relevant.
Unless, let's say, the surgeon has some neat traits... like cannibalism, cataracts, boodlust... things that would cause the doctor to be a little less careful, and the yes, chance to fail; i would go for that more then for a surgery "accident simulation". Oh definitely any character without an eye or an arm should be completely uncapable of doing any medical practice?

ive also had things go bad, wondering how they can mangle the leg when installing a power claw.

id also like the option to skip the use of medicine on a patient.  say im just harvesting organs.  just give me the organs and stop wasting painkillers, im yanking out his heart next.  maybe a full body harvest bill that removes all organs.  i did some math, you generally get more money selling people as slaves than from all the organs they have.  so it wouldnt be too much and unbalanced.  i do enjoy taking a few organs before selling as slaves tho
