What is Lantern Hunters?

Lantern Hunters is a total conversion mod for Rimworld, incorporating the setting, and many gameplay mechanics from the tabletop RPG Kingdom Death Monster. In Lantern Hunters, the player will manage a colony of hunters and play through a campaign including hunts, monster showdowns, nemesis attacks and more.

How does it work?

The basic gameplay loop is similar to the tabletop game. Manage your settlement, create caravans to hunt monsters on the open world, experience hunt events, then fight the monster and return home with the loot to feed the settlement and craft new gear. No knowledge of Kingdom Death Monster is required to enjoy this game, but you will need knowledge of Rimworld.

Features:

  • 4 Hunted Monsters : White Lion, Screaming Antelope, Gorm, Phoenix (Planned: Flower Knight, Sunstalker)

  • 2 Nemesis Monsters: Butcher, King's Man (Planned: The Hand, Watcher)

  • Monsters use a custom AI and combat rule set based off of the tabletop game rules. The combat is greatly expanded over Rimworld's melee combat, featuring large hitboxes for monsters, reach weapons (spears and whips), active combat abilities and buffs / debuffs.

  • Hunt events occur while traveling the over world. Lantern Hunters features over 50 Hunt events out of a planned 100. Choose your outcomes, or let the dice decide.

  • Featuring a new research system of Innovations based off of the tabletop game, complete with matching tech tree.

  • Over 30 new buildings, Over 50 new weapons, and 8 sets or armor, including Helmets, Chest pieces, gauntlets, waist guards, and boots.

  • Completely overhauled art style. More detail has been added to the human character model so that you can see your armor and weapons better. Nearly all game textures have been replaced, and the rest may also be replaced in the future.

  • 20+ new settlement events, with some familiar events returning. Includes deadly events where nemesis monsters will attack you at your base.

  • New Biomes and World Generation (Only 1 playable biome so far, but more to come)

  • Expanded XP system where colonists gain XP for killing monsters and completing hunt events, which eventually gives rewards.

  • Aggressive darkness system, so be sure to bring a lantern with you wherever you go. The sun does not rise.

  • No compatibility with anything! Because the art and gameplay is radically altered, no mods can be expected to work with Lantern Hunters. Not even Royalty and Ideology, so be sure to disable these.

  • A tough challenge. Expect to die often as a new player. Remember to read the noob guide posted above. The game is best enjoyed on Iron Man mode, but if you are worried about unfair outcomes, or bugs, you may wish to play Reload Anytime mode.

What is the level of completion for this project?

Current version feature incomplete, but with enough content for at least 100 days of in-game time. Should be fairly stable, but not entirely bug free. A loose roadmap for development follows:

v0.90
-Watcher (Final Boss)
-Post final boss content (oxidized gear, pulse research)
-75 hunt events

v0.95
-Cave biome
-Monster scripted events/secret fighting arts

v1.0
-Sunstalker hunt
-The Hand nemesis fight
-Playable desert
-100 hunt events

Don't expect too many hotfixes. I can't play-test everything whenever I make a change. I'll only fix major bugs in between major releases.
