First of all unsure if defcon is the right word.

Now to the point. An Idea I had while playing due to people running out into a potential area of enemies is defcon levels. All this would mean is that you can set the level to either Green, Yellow or Red. and in simplicity it is this.

Green: What the game is currently, colonists go do what they do.
Yellow: Colonists are tied to the home region, they dont go outside of it to do tasks.
Red: A colonist is tied to their room (Being where their bed is) so that you can find people easier.

Now these levels would either automatically take effect during a red event. or have to be manually toggled using say the Comms Console (Basewide radio?) or even a new research that much I haven't thought into. And thats all this simple idea is that could save colonist lives.

Its really weird to hear of a colony that isn't run like Auschwitz and selling human leather for a living.

That's a pretty straightforward solution that addresses a lot of micro problems during combat situations! This would be really helpful considering the new mechanic where doctors automatically go out to grab downed colonists.

Yeah there's been quite some talk about these defcon levels/ scramble / alarm states, etc. Might be worth checking them for some of the probable shortcomings or implementations.

Evil Genius had such system and it worked somewhat nice, so i don't see what we could lose from having such systeme

A Commconsole option for it should be fine but i wouldn't mind having it in the UI, like E.G.

Sending them to beds could work but having so you could set where you want them would be better, specially if you like to make "natural" homes and not serial bunk beds in a row. So think of a war room or safe room.

Alarms really shouldn't be automatic at all

An added benefit: When under red alert, you pawns auto-arm themselves with pre-set weapons and armor, so you don't have to micro hundreds of clicks every single invasion but still have unburden colonists in peace time (like, not having people armed to the teeth going around 24/7).

Once we get proper inventories, radio use would be a cool addition.

I'd never met an iterator I liked....until Zhentar saved me.
Why Unity5, WHY do you forsake me?

+1 to this but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make pawns stay in their rooms. Maybe add a special zone they'll move to?

Specialist290

Forcing them to stay in their rooms might be a tad excessive, but I'd love to see a Panic Button that basically tells pawns, "Remain indoors unless I tell you otherwise."

Cracker21

+1 i agree completely. This needs to be a thing

You know, that idea is very simple, and fills a large need. These kinds of things are exactly what I would like to see added to this game to help reduce some of the micromanagement tasks.
