The following is more of a proof of concept. Its me messing about with the Dev mode to see what scenario I can create. Its possibly not balanced, its possibly glitch, and it might not work. And I know you can cheat, but of course that's entirely up to you.

This is also a sample to see if you lot are interested in this sort of thing. Feel free to hurl abuse or praise bellow, and tell us the story of how you got on.

Guidelines:
1: Breaking the fourth (Golden) wall:
Due to mechanics and needing some behind the scenes stuff running I used Gold walls to denote the boundaries of the map. Equally I had to leave entrances into the map area, and couldn't build on the map edge. So feel free to utterly ignore that, with the current tool set up there's nothing to be done.

2: Storyteller
this is set up so you can either go for the longer play and use the storyteller or not. Your choice. The Storyteller toggle option is on the dev console, bottom right, there's a little green tick. By default it automatically resets to "On". So if you want to play without the Story teller interfering, uncheck that first thing.

Equally you might get some events happen outside of the golden walls, you'll obviously need to use the Dev console and a bit of fudging if that happens.

3: Furniture
Most of the furniture is provided by using other things and you can use them as normal when they're trying to represent other things. Examples are Computer consoles are represented by smelters or Comms consoles and Monitors by Hoppers. The lack of way to re-name things is the problem. Of course its up to you how much you buy in.
-------------------------Story-------------------------

After a long journey your Cryptosleep chamber hisses open. through the dull eye sight caused by Cryptosleep sickness, you see three other pods open. Their occupants struggling with the sickness symptoms.

Knowing the drill by now you struggle through to recive your briefing from the Cognitive Long-range Artificial Intelligence Responsible Entity (or CLAIRE, the ships AI).

CLAIRE waits for your to gather your wits and then begins.

"Colonists! Apologies for early waking. Sensors indicate Anomaly ahead. You will please investigate. Find out why occurrence. Might effect colony on planet plans."

As she talks, a screen flashes into life. On it there's a huge lump of tangled metal. On closer inspection you can see a mishmash of all sorts of ships slammed together at weird angles. The collection is quite large. Then CLAIRE continues.

"Sensors show life forms. Breathable atmosphere also possible.
Due to presence of other units, caution advised. For your safety Weapons issued. Docking in hours four."

Over the next while you work to throw off the sickness, and then as the last hour approaches you start to suit up in your lime green space suit. Finally you hear the grinding clamp of of the docking umbilical locking onto the ship.
As you look at the inner airlock door waiting for it to open so you may start your adventure a skidbot trundles into the room. On its carrying shelve is a rack with four SMG's and ammunition. The rack also contains a small compliments card from CLAIRE.

After a short space walk you end up on a platform on the outside of the station. across another small docking umbilical you can see an outer airlock door.

Then suddenly CLAIRE starts to talk over the radio.

"Warning! Object inbound. 192.57 Degree,s Elevation 24 degrees..." Spinning about you look in the direction, you can see the dot of a smallish meteorite heading for you. ".... Collisions unavoidable. Ship no chance to survive. Save deployed crew."

With that your colony ship immediately moves away. Tearing the docking umbilical away. There's a rending crash and the asteroid ploughs into your ship. The momentum smashes the wreck of your colony into the abandoned hulk on which you now stand with a massive tearing of metal, utterly silent in the void, but you can feel the vibrations. The asteroid and your ship become one with the hulk.

Stunned by the impact you look about. You see one of your allies staring at a wall, point with their suit lights. You stare at the section of the wall and see the words slowly emboss on the steel wall

"Amuse us, lesser beings."

Seems interesting.
I have not downloaded the map yet, but will be playing with some mods.
It will be quite interesting to see how the Transcendents respond to me having colonists who are upgraded to bionic supersoldiers! ;)
EDIT: Forgot this until now, but YOU NEED TO PROVIDE THE WORLD TOO! The save won't work without the world :)
Farewell and Thanks for the Fish.
