Basically, when raiders are preparing to attack or pirates are sieging my base, it'd be nice to have a zone that says "Avoid this area".

I had to load a save because my hunter decided it was a good idea to hunt a muffalo near some preparing, shielded pirates.

I have a few arguments against this one would be that situation you had is kind of what it be like in real life. The guy was just hunting and just came across a bunch of enemies and got killed in the process. Just another day on a rimworld it happens you can't have a perfect world. The second thing I'd say is have map awareness, if you have a hunter and there is a group of raiders on the map make sure there isn't any animals on it that you ordered a hunt on. Why add another feature that the player can easily prevent himself?

I believe having accidents like this is part of the fun of Rimworld so I am strongly against this idea.

It would still require manual changes. The player would have to go and forbid the area with enemies in it.

So then why not manually watch your colonist instead of adding unnecessary feature in the game? It's not like the raiders are going to sit in that area forever. Look at it as if you were a dev. Currently as the game is there is no reason for this feature because any area you would forbid would only be temporary as most enemies will attack you eventually and you have to deal with it or lose the game. Now if there was lets say giant carnivorous plants that slowly grows till you get flame thrower to burn it down. Then I would completely agree with this idea but stuff like that isn't in the game as of yet.

Ship Parts and those cryosleep chambers qualify, IMO.

As I was watching my colonists repeatedly try to head out to pick up goods in an area where raiders were preparing the other day, I wished for just a simple button to toggle a mode that would say "while mode is active, all colonists are restricted to the Home region(s)".  Would that accomplish what you are thinking of?
