In the early stages of my colony, I never have enough time to deal with dirt, blood, etc. A natural counter to this would be to have robots to do it! Maybe they could require parts from a machining bench--I can accept that! Even if it took 500 work to build the bots, it'd make my guys much happier and free them up for other things.

That is something that should be very expensive and shouldn't be an early game thing. I mean why not a mining bot? or a farming bot? Because in the early days of a colony you have to struggle. I'd say only have this very late into the game and something you can not build but you have to buy from a trader for like 20,000 Silver. I personally am not in favor of this idea when I have trouble cleaning I take newly recruit members and make them earn their worth by cleaning and hauling.

Also a polite request. Since you seem to be brimming with ideas that tend to be very short could you put them in the your cheapest ideas thread or just make a combined thread of all your ideas. That way we don't have 20 threads of your ideas. :)

This isn't really a slippery slope. Mining and farming are far more complex and labor-intensive tasks than sweeping.

Though, given what would go into such a thing, you may be better off just getting an  prisoner/slave/colonist and setting them to just clean and haul.

Well, I have no idea how easy any of  these are to program. The spine/body thing I put in there, i figured would be simply because they already have bionics. Some of these would require behaviors, which has been stated to not be a cheap thing. Maybe a combined thread, though...

Also, the problem with 'just' getting someone to do stuff is that another person is another mouth to feed.

As for the mining/farming bots, those would be more complex than a simple cleaning bot. We already have, for instance, the Roomba, which costs less than a smartphone...

My colony totally isn't covered in vomit from my 4 chemical-loving colonists and poorly-cooked meals. And where'd all that raider blood come from? ::)

Kagemusha12

You have cleaning bots ... they are called Colonists

:D

BetaSpectre

Roomba's exist IRL.
They aren't expensive.

Mining bots should be crazy complex. Farming bots should be sorta expensive. (Tractors pls)

You want bots? Use mechanical defense 2 , it has droids , and particularly, logistics droid , that hauls and cleans. They require a bit of research and some crafting though.

If you want just cleaning robot, then go with Clutter mod. It has Trashbin (auto), and it comes with short range roomba-like bot. It doesn`t require any research, but it costs 200 steel, and you need one in every room.

hector212121

This is stuff that could be core, though.

Let's say 100 steel for a Charging Station, and another 100 per Cleaner. 400 for Farmbots, and 2000 for Miners.

Kegereneku

I would totally repurpose a Mechanoid to clean things.
Just make it a rather high-level research and require some task to build one (if not a structure)

Sounds like a good way to use an ai core.  I don't want to build a ship unless it lets me start a new game with the colonists i put on it.

Birdie

You're telling me you want to shove an ancient, murderous, psychic AI into a roomba and tell it to go clean?
I can get behind this.

hector212121

Why would we use AI cores for that? Much easier to just program AS's.... Artifical Stupidities. You really don't need much intelligence for a cleaning 'bot

+1 to cleaner bots; however only if colonist still have to clean the cleaner bots

You just need 2  ;D one can clean the other
