Actually, NeverPire, official RW lore sets the game about 3,400 years in the future. So while it wouldn't be the year 6987, it'd be closer to 5450 than to 2800.

Interesting corollary to my point above. Since the game's set roughly 3,400 years in the future, if you ever run across a pawn with a chronological age greater than 3,400, you're looking at someone who was apparently already alive on earth in our own present day.

(And now I'm going to have to check when I get home and see if the game code caps chronological ages to prevent that from happening.)
