How to play

Hi,
I'm missing something here.
Can someone please explain how you play this game?
I can't get anyone to do anything???
They all just walk around until they have a mental breakdown.
Nothing happen in research; it just says in progress???

When you begin.
Start designating a area you want to mine it might be priority to start with the little mountain wich holds metal.
Make some growing fields.
Assing priorities. 1 goon for mining 1 for growing (my 3th always guards the other 2 goons)

Than slowly dig a hole in a big mountain and try and get a prison room asap. And a cantina with a powered nutrient machine.

As Semmy has stated, you need to get your feet wet, but don't jump in. First, I advise pausing(spacebar)the game and checking your local area. You want to find a solid defensible area, either a base in the open with reasonable natural defenses, or digging into the mountain edge Dig-Dug style and carve out a few rooms.

You will need a Nutrient machine and some table/chairs in one area, and power to hook it up to. So look for geysers for natural energy, and if none are available(close to your camp) use the solar power.
Also make a rooming situation for your first colonists. I generally use this first living quarters for a few days(game time), and once I get a little more established I build separate bedrooms for my colonists, and convert the first lodging to a prisoner room.

Be sure to set your colonists priorities (matching their skills to there tasks) for efficiency. There are several types of colonists so be sure to have a well rounded group of three. I usually have a Miner, Grower, and a settler with decent social/weapon skill to become a 'sheriff' when raiders show.

As far as research goes you'll need to build a research table...but that is usually a few days in once you are established with your Food/Bedding/Power are taken care of.
