Questiom about when pawns start searching for gear replacement

Colonists start replace some of their gear like parkas, power armor helmets, armor vests at 91% but other clothes as shirts, pants, cowboy hats, psy foil helmets etc. they don't care to change so fast (they are still in use even at 56% when there are 100% of the same gear at the stockpile). My question is - are rules different for different gear?

They usually pick whatever is better quality, so if the 100% is awful and the 50% is good, they're keep wearing it until it becomes worse then the awful one.

Yes as Zombie noted, they're trying to optimize their selection by looking at the actual stats of the gear (armor, temperature benefit, etc). So they may choose a lower-HP gear of higher quality.

Posted a suggestion for this but can we set it such that we can customize the specifice tyoe of clothing they wear material wise? Currently, colonists don't differentiate between the type of materials the clothings are made of. Which is a little problematic if we wish to make them all wear a similar type of clothing like all wearing Muffalo Fur Jackets.

Well, what's the point to replace masterwork warg parka 91% with normal cloth 99% i don't understand. My problem with that - on ice sheet biome with -65C in the winter can't afford to use cloth parkas, especially in outfit combination for wardens (with a cowboy hat) and after every raid have to manually forbid all parkas that are better than normal quality and above 91% ( all outfits are set <51% and normal to legendary quality). That include also all human leather parkas below masterwork quality (100%) - it's just too cold to use them.

A solution for this is to simply forbid or burn or sell items that are below a certain HP/quality level.  You can make separate stockpiles with customized settings to make forbidding low quality stuff simpler, e.g. have a clothing stockpile that only accepts stuff below "good" quality and another that only takes "good" or higher and just forbid everything in the low quality pile.
