why are body parts not recoverable after death? Obviously i can pull parts off dead mechanoids and use them.. why not peg legs or other (modded) bionic parts?
i understand i cant pull a normal heart from a rotting corpse, but bionics dont 'die' wiht the person

Going to second this.  Not being able to recover non-perishable prosthetics doesn't make much sense. Hopefully it's just a consequence of only being able to perform an operation on a living pawn, and that we'll have a workaround for that available in the near future.

I don't remember well. Tynan said something that made it look like a code problem (dead body state aren't refreshed) that made it possible to harvest infinite number of prosthetic and so... but also that it was a balance problem because regularly comes with bionics.

Since he added so much feature relating to Life-stage and animals, I think we could ask him again if its possible.
"Sam Starfall joined your colony"
"Sam Starfall left your colony with all your valuable"

If that's still a thing it'd probably be OK to make it work like a butchering recipe, and just destroy the corpse or turn it into something that is not a corpse after it's processed.

I'm pretty sure he flat out said it was balance issues, so you won't be able to harvest anything off the corpses.

hmm.. i would think that after losing 4 colonists to the Orion Corp, getting a couple advanced spines out of the deal would make me feel a bit better

i am on a 8y old colony (medium size) on randy extreme... i have had around 10 evil ships and 15 mechanoid raids AT LEAST. i have been able to keep ONE Scyther alive (out of pure luck ofc) and for some reason he didn't have a blade.

i second this idea: removing of mechanoid parts and bionics from dead, even rotten corpses, makes all sense to me. i'd even say more: from human rotten corpses, the bionics should just "drop off" and fall next to the skeleton (if left alone long enough)

bonus: why can't we put a Scyther blade or powerfist on a bionic arm for extra awesomeness? :)

Because a scyther blade literally takes up your arm, it's a giant blade. And like I said, it wont ever happen, he said it's for balance reasons. There was a thread, and there could be many reasons for it, such as it's actually a living item and once attached to a colonist/pawn, if said colonist or pawn dies it dies with it.
