I was a bit confused and incorrectly thinking it was this mod messing up my nice 'ate a simple meal' thoughts (we used to get a small mood boost in a7 didn't we lol)

I finally looked and can see the thoughtdef for simple meal is gone/missing.   not being sure how to make a mod to just make this small change to the simple meal, i edited the appropriate files to give simple meals a small thought boost of 2.. and re-enabled this neat little mod :)

Ah, I just started playing RimWorld at alpha 8 and was wondering why there would be a boost to eating canned foods and not a simple cooked meal. I do like how there is no mood boost to simple cooked meals as I feel that gives more value to "fine" and "lavish".

I created a more consistent art asset for the cans if anyone is interested:


I also changed the mood boost of eating "raw" canned food to -1. I don't think there should be a positive mood boost as you're trading quality for shelflife.

I removed the ThoughtDef to "cooked" canned food as well so it's the same as eating a "simple" meal.

i like the concept of this mod. the purpose i am seeking is to use this as a replacement for the nutrient meal paste dispenser in the prison. (not for regular colonist consumption)

a meal that doesn't spoil. and doesn't cause such a negative mood penalty. (i can set a prisoner food stockpile that doesn't need freezing.)

i think the added cost of the craft is balanced (costs twice as much raw food to craft compared to meal paste + 1 steel each) and for your efforts you get rewarded with less mood penalty for your prisoners.

what joeyslucky22 has done sounds really good. and the art looks nice.

Could you split this into Canned Meat and Canned Vegetables? As it stands Canned Food is listed under vegetarian ingredients no matter the contents. I haven't tested, but I would think that means you can't currently use meat that you've canned in a fine meal (it requires meat and vegetables to make), so if you auto-can all your meat you'd never be able to make a meal better than simple.

Also I noticed my colonists will sometimes eat canned food even though I have a ton of simple meals sitting around.

I think this was in the Overhaul mod pack, I did like using the concept.
Trying it out in my initial A11 run through :).
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. StorymasterQ

Can you please provide me a download link for Alpha 10? I'm not going to upgrade any time soon, particularly if A11 is the last major overhaul. I *really* <3 my kill rooms ;-)

I have posted earlier and I've said that I really like this idea.
I appreciate your effort in making this mod, ty.

On using this, I observed a few things..

The food calculations / efficiencies don't scale up, unless I am missing something.

10 Raw food + 1 metal ore = 10 cans.  It has a 85% nutrition + 2% Joy.
On the other hand, a simple meal takes 10 raw food for 75% nutrition + 3% joy.

If I eat raw food, I use (7 raw food for 35% nutrition).
If I eat a meal, I use (10 raw food for 75% nutrition).
If I eat a can, I use (2 raw food for 85% nutrition).

Also to confirm, you eat 2 cans in 1 go?
I wasn't able to find maxNumToIngestAtOnce in the XMLs.
I only observed it by checking in game.

Next, canned food is classified as raw vegetarian food in the category menu.
This means that canned food is used to prepare meals :(

My dilemma is that canned meal is either a way to preserve food (life) but meant to be used for further cooking, or a meal (with increased nutrition, but can't be used for cooking). We should decide between one of the two uses.

Since JuliaEllie has discontinued her mods, I updated this one to A12 and posted it in another thread.  I integrated some of the feedback presented here.  Let me know (in my thread) what you think!
