a question about prisoner release

If I release an enemy prisoner, does the prisoner attack me after I release him?

They normally don't but I believe there is a bug that they can break after release which will cause them to remain on the map and attack anything near them.

That is not a bug, but a feature. Release a prisoner, no they will not attack you while they head home. But if they have a mental break while traveling, they will wander around, and if they go berserk, they attack everything.
