currently, there is no advantage for having hydroponics instead of soil in an enclosed building... i was wondering if it would be feasible to remove the rest period of plants in hydroponics, in order to make them viable again.

hydroponics have a faster growth rate and built-in lighting systems so it doesn't need a sun lamp. There's some point to having them (though I agree maybe not enough to warrant the extra costs).

Really?

in fluffys mod they do. Not in vanilla.

And for the removal of the rest period, that is hard coded in the game, no chance to mod it.

I was convinced they did this in vanilla, never actually modded hydroponics... Apparently I was wrong :D

Hydroponics do not need soil. In what way are they not viable if you have no soil? Do you mine out steel or plasteel and sell it for food?

i wall off an outside area and light it up with sun lamps. only 10 percent slower than hydroponics, better area utilization, and i only need the sun lamps and heaters, i dont need to power the hydroponic benches as well.

There is a component to the Enhanced Defense Mod by Jaxxa that removes the plant resting time (Plant 24H) its a modular pack too https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=15606

OR

Vas also recently added that to his modular hydroponics mod https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=14192.msg147792#msg147792 ... even grass will grow 24/7 if given sufficient lighting

ok. thanks. would have been nice to only remove it for hydroponics (gives hydroponics a nice buff, and it make sense that only hydroponics would be able to sustain that sort of plant growth.) still, thanks!
