The next update will include a new extreme desert biome. How do you lads think it will work?

I hope for colder winters and warmer summers. Perhaps colder nights and warmer days as well (but that might be abit micro intensive in a bad way).

Less vegitation, less fertile land, and even less animal life is in for sure.

I find myself mostly playing ice sheet now, really looking forward to another more extreme enviroment.

Yah, me too.  I really like the different "feel" of Desert/Tundra/Ice Sheet biomes, with the problems of temperature and getting enough food adding another dimension to the game.
Normally I find the various ship parts and raids tough to deal with, so it's nice to have a set of problems along an independent axis, with a different "kind" of difficulty, as it were.

I enjoy colonies with an easy storyteller, but in a tough biome... raids are not much of an issue (especially when they freeze before getting in range  ;) ), yet the game remains difficult because of environmental issues.

My guess (hope) is that Extreme Desert will be to "normal" Desert what Ice Sheet is to Tundra.

Then we can have a nice symmetry of progression between cold/hot biomes: Boreal Forest -> Tundra -> Ice Sheet on one hand, and Arid Scrubland -> Desert -> Extreme Desert on the other.

Can't wait!

My concern for the extreme desert biome, unlike ice sheets, is early refrigeration.  I like to build walk-in freezers early because it secures my food supply, but with extreme heat I'll need probably need many coolers to upkeep it.  That means a needing a lot of metal for the coolers and metal to build power sources for them.

Now that's where I want to raise my boomalope herd!

I'm not concerned, because that is my hope. Filthy warm summers and filthy cold winters.

This isn't really much different to requiring to build a bunch of heaters in ice sheets to stop ya colonists freezing.
