Cook runs long distances when he doesn't have to

Look at the screenshot and where the fine meal is far to the left in the freezer. Why does the cook run all the way over to that corner with cooked meals, when there is empty space right next to him?
It's not because there was a stack there before. He started that stack by putting the first meal there, when the empty space was the same as it is now. he could move 1 square, but he moves ~10 to drop meals and then move back to the stove.

This is part optimization, part a bit of randomness so they act less mechanical, and part them being smart by not always blocking the path into a stockpile first. But it's intentional. Thanks for reporting, locking.
