One of the neat things is once you launch the ship your colony will continue with those left behind, so you can technically launch 2 ships of 10 people that go in separate directions and play through their story lines separately. (Also more than 10 peeps when you crash are going to burn through your stockpiled food supplies in a real hurry since you have to research everything all over again so won't have that handy hydroponics bay to fast grow your food anymore initially.)

Alternatively you can always just stop recruiting more colonists once you reach 10, and just release/sell off/turn into warg food/harvest for organs any one you take prisoner. (or just execute them instead of capture them)

yea. i suppose that could do.

although it would be nice if the colonists and their stats and items are automatically saved and exported in vanilla if you launched them from a ship, so that when you create a new colony you can just load them all up automatically.

the ship can also have additional parts like :
-animal crypto pods : can hold 1 large animal or 2 small animals
-supply cache : can hold 9 stacks of items

------

this would be really cool on ironman mode.  ;D

You could incorporate chance into the next map after you take off by rolling a dice to see which colonists, pets, gear won't survive the crash. Maybe 50% chance per each thing surviving.

You could also manipulate the chances of that by setting up ahead of time goals like :

If I build a ship with a cargo room that has so and so much cloth per sleep chamber to mimic having a parachute , then each colonist that has that much cloth has has a 75% chance.

If I build a plasteel wall around and metal floor a sleep chamber as sort of life pod thing
improve the chance to 90%

build plasteel cargo pods to give your food and gear a chance to survive

maybe come up with a imaginary weight for these things , more weight = more engines
more engines = more power plants needed,  more power plants = more command AIs etc

If I new anything about coding I would try to mod this haha
