Humankind has conquered a small yet respectable amount of stars near the center of the galaxy, dubbed "The Alliance" by the Starmaster, the leader of humankind itself. Many of the worlds in these systems have reached a technological and human "peak," known as Glitterworlds. However, despite the "peak," crime runs rampant in many parts of The Alliance's less guarded systems. The calender was changed after the destruction of the Omega Senturi System, and the Alliance let go of "AD" and gave birth to "UT" (Universal Time). The year is 4302 UT. Since execution was outlawed in 4300, all capitol offenses result in the expulsion from the Alliance systems. Groups of three are sent indiscriminately to the edges of the galaxy to planets dubbed "Rimworlds." Many die on Rimworlds, leaving their marks and relics to history. Others survive, but lose most of the technology that they once had. The rest form primitive societies, "Tribes," and fend mostly for themselves. Rimworlds, being so far from the Alliance, is a festerpool for piracy. That is all that is needed to be known to understand this story.

Prequel
I was awoken from my cryptosleep sarcophagi to the sound of sirens and ripping metal. It took me a moment to remember who and where I was. My name was Charles.. No, that's not right.. It's.. Charley! I was 22 years old, and I was a starship janitor before being exiled for treason. I focused back into reality, and down the hall I saw many figures running around the corner heading towards the escape pod bay. I turned around, looking for any other interesting points but saw nothing significant. I began to walk, my shoes bathed in a vile green slime unfamiliar to me. 'I have to pick up the pace!' Running, I caught up to the group, seeing nobody I knew. As if I'd know anyone on the exile ship. A door blocked our path, the room bathed in red light and the ship shaking at random intervals.

"What's going on?!" A familiar voice screamed into the crowd of confused chatter.
"Are we going to die?!" Another voice cried out.
"Everyone just shut up!"

An intercom buzzed, and a stern voice began to speak "Exiles, proceed calmly to the escape pods, and stay in your groups."

The door creaked and opened, the group pushed into the escape pod bay. 'Is that a beeping noise?' The sound of the alarm was getting on my nerves, but I knew that the alarm was a never-ending buzz noise, no, that's not the alarm, that's the sound of a bomb. Boom! An exaggerated explosion rocked the ship at the other end of the bay, I began to enter a pod beside a young woman and an older man. The room was rapidly decompressing, and suddenly half of the room tore off from the main section of the ship. Many people flew out into space in the blink of an eye, and my pod slammed shut immediately afterwards. 'We barely survived that' I thought to myself as my pod flew out of the destroyed ship and towards a planet devoid of civilization.

"Preparing re-entry protocol 7753." The female pod AI had said, and suddenly my window was covered with a plasteel casing.

The pod shook lightly, and I had begun to realize that I was shaking not from the cold but from shock. This is it, my death starts now. I thought, as my pod penetrated the frozen soil ground.

Chapter 1 - Reunion
Despite being slightly disorientated, I moved my body a little bit just to make sure I was okay. The plasteel window covering was still blocking my view, and the computer interface in the pod was functional. Where am I? I thought, it sure felt like my home planet. The computer read out displayed many characteristics of the planet I'd landed on. "Gravity: 1.000104040 G / Average Temperature (Jan): -22.1C - Average Temperature (Jul): 23.4C / Local Biome Classification: Temperate Forest / Local Average Rainfall: 1249mm / Growing Period: E@#$# (#RERE" The computer stopped speaking english and began to output bursts of computerized nothings. The system was corrupted by the landing I realized.

It was currently midnight. I took a long sigh and pressed the eject button. I heard a pshh sound and suddenly the air I was breathing felt clean. At least it's not a poisonous toxic waste dump world I tried to make a joke, but it only made me more fearful of what was to come. My plasteel window covering rotated around my pod top and I looked outside. Dead plants and frost everywhere I thought, disappointed that it wasn't some luxurious field of grass with crystal clear skies. I pushed the door off and poked my head out of the pod, and seen nearby two other pods. At least I'm not here alone. The other pods sat dormant, I waited a few moments but nothing happened. I was about to call out to them but suddenly almost instantaneously both pods made the same pshh sound and flew open.

"Hello?" I called somewhat timidly to the open pods.
Moments passed
"Hello!" I said once again.

Maybe they'd died on impact. My heart began to beat a little faster and I got up and hastily made my way towards one of the pods. When I'd made it about three quarters towards it a voice gave response.

"I'm okay." A young woman's voice had said.
"Do you need help getting up?" I said back once I'd reached the pod.

I was about to look in when she suddenly exited her pod. Do I know you? I thought almost immediately. She had long brown hair and had a smooth white face. Yes.. I do know you! You're.. I was about to speak up about my thoughts when she'd began to speak to me.

"Brother? What are you doing here?" She sounded relieved and ran towards me.

My sister! You're my sister! My mind had finally remembered, and I ran towards her.

We collided and embraced each other in a long warm hug, what a relief it was to have her with me!

"I was so scared, brother, that'd I'd be put on some horrible planet with strangers!" She said tearfully.
"It's okay, you're here with me now, you're safe." I responded, trying to re-assure her.

My sister's name was Sage, and she's three years younger than me. I always tried to protect her from harm, and now I could still do that, even in custody. The other pod was open already, and a man behind me had began to speak.

"If you two could stop being wussies and get to work on establishing some sort of shelter, that'd be great."

Chapter 1.1 - Finding Ground
"Sorry sir, it's just that I'd never expected to see my sister ever again." I said to the man.
"That's not an excuse to get us all killed. Now, we have a bunch of supplies around here that fell from the ship. Collect them, and stockpile them over there. He pointed to a clearing in the ground.

I nodded, and began to do so.

"I'll start planting some seeds then! If we're going to be here awhile, we'll need food!" Sage giggled and began to gather seed packages from around the site.

The man and I talked as we collected bits of steel and logs from around the crash site. His name was Nelson, but he'd preferred to be called Nelly. He was a Glitterworld Surgeon and was exiled for being caught performing human test trials without authorization on a herbal medicine. It was freezing outside, I didn't know what month it was, but it was probably one of the winter months.

After gathering all we could, I realized I was shivering violently.

"We need to build some sort of hut so we can make a campfire!" I stuttered, trying to stay warm.
"Alright, we'll use these logs to make the walls and door. Help me out kid, you can build can't you?" Nelly said.
"Yes, I can help." I replied, and began to gather wood to use for the hut.

After a few hours the hut was built, and we all ran inside and began to light a fire. It warmed up the room quickly, and we began to discuss many issues and plans we had to make.

"For starters, we'll sleep in here during the night. We'll build beds later when we have room." Nelly said, and we all nodded in agreement.
"When the soil warms up and unthaws, I'll work on the fields!" Sage happily spoke, and Nelly and I nodded in agreement. She seemed so innocent.. How will this planet change her? I thought.
"Nelly and I will hunt for food today so we don't starve to death on our first night here." I offered, and no objections were made.
"Great idea kid, I actually found some weapons lying around earlier." Nelly said, which was relieving, because I wasn't ready to attack the animals with my bare hands.. If there were any on this planet.

We were ready, and we began to go through with our ideas. I went out and seen a lee-einfield on the floor, but Nelly grabbed it before I could and I resorted to using a pistol. Finding animals was easy, the trees were dead and most plant life was dormant exposing the terrain to us and allowing us to see that there were deer no more than 200 feet from us. Nelly stood behind a tree and I crouched behind a boulder. We couldn't afford to miss, or they'd most likely flee. Nelly took aim and I began to aim down my sights. Suddenly, a crack came from my right and a bullet flew by me and towards the deer. I fired the pistol and got the deer in one straight shot. However despite our efforts it began to flee. Another deer, unscathed by the conflict ensuing walked by my line of fire and I accidentally got it. Nelly kept trying to get the deer that was fleeing, but my pistol could only shoot so far and I decided to try and get the deer I'd just shot. I'd fatally shot one and Nelly incapacitated the other one when a third deer flew by me from my left and was hit by one of Nelly's bullets! What a stroke of luck! These animals were total idiots! We downed the third deer and began to gather our rewards. We'd butcher them and have food for a few days. Night was falling, and I seen Sage idly sitting by the fields trying to dig a hole into the frozen soil, she had a sullen expression on her face.

"Good job kiddo! We have food and leather now that will surely help us in our struggle!" Nelly said to me

I felt good about myself. Sage congratulated Nelly and I, then she began to butcher the deceased deer. Nelly turned in for the night, and I had a moment to speak with Sage while she finished with the animals.

"Sage, are you okay?" I asked her.
"I'm fine.. I just want to soil to unthaw so I can do something helpful instead of picking at ice all day.." she replied.
"You are being helpful still, Sage. Here, take this plasteel knife. It's one of the ones I stole while we were all the way back at customs." I reached into my pocket and handed it to her, her eyes twinkled and she looked surprised and happy.
"Thanks brother! This will be good to have if I'm ever in a jam!" She giggled, and I grinned.
"I'm going to turn in for the night, don't stay out too late, okay?"
"Alright! Good night!" She said, and I went to go lie down. The roof was made of steel plates we'd collected, and it kept the heat in and the rain that should eventually come out. This first day was peaceful, maybe we'd be okay here. I turned over, and went to sleep.
