Considering charge rifles now need plasteel to be crafted, it makes sense they should smelt into plasteel, not steel.

Additionally, it would be nice if you made it possible to smelt armor, especially power armor and power armor helmet (to plasteel). They're very expensive top tier items, but sometimes all you get is very beaten up armour, and some people just want to build the ship and perhaps don't need extra armor.

Well I'll say you found a real issue my man. I wrote a debug outputter for smelt products. Looks like something is amiss.

Way back in the day smelt products were directly defined. And I think we may still be doing that. And we really shouldn't be.

Yep, it looks like every gun uses the same directly-defined smelt product. 20 steel. Will need to fix that.

I hope we can recover Components from guns.  Smelting wouldn't seem a realistic way to do that (components will just melt down to base metal with non-metal circuit board material just burning into ash), but might be simpler gameplaywise unless weapons are moved to disassembly or maybe a two-part process where at a machining table you can disassemble guns to get components and 'scrap steel' (and/or plasteel, etc.) that then can be smelted down, but that is probably just a needless complication.
