For some reason, my guys don't harvest any crops, at all, ever, on their own. I have removed priorities from everything except plant cutting, but they just walk around idle even though there are both crop zones and hydroponics tables with ready to harvest plants.
So, starvation is an issue in my town :P
I can use the order to harvest all the crops, but I really don't think that should be necessary. I'm going nuts here but I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

I haven't read anything about anyone else having this issue so I kinda assume it's something that has bugged out in my session..? It should be so blatantly obvious that someone should have reported it by now...

I'll attach the save file (zipped to get below max file size) where it is a serious issue.

Can someone confirm? Or just tell me what the **** I'm doing wrong?

Harvesting is not plant cutting.

Growing is what is needed to harvest your crops from your growing area.
Set one guy with priority 1 on growing and the rest 2 or higher. And have a growing area. He will grow your potatoes.

I will check the savegame in a bit when i get home.

As i suspected (-;
Switch to growing and everything is sorted.

You mean I've played this game for several months, and not noticed that Plant Cutting has nothing to do with the actual harvesting of the crop?
Well, sort of a facepalm moment. But to be honest, I felt it was a really nice and logical thing that they were split into two different categories. It just felt very natural to me because of the simplicity of the AI for the pawns. Gave me a little more control over the flow of the colony without micromanaging. It fit in nicely. Sad now.

The thing is, with a single "growing" priority (as it is now) the dude runs around placing crops on every place possible before he even thinks about harvesting. And that happens even during extreme famine. That was the problem I had. I guess you can micromanage the colony and turn off most of your growing areas and reactivate them one by one, but it shouldn't have to be necessary.
A simple way to tell them that "right now, we REALLY need food, and since there are crops available, can you PLEASE just harvest them before placing new ones??" would be appreciated.

So in conclusion, I like the idea of having two different priorities for them. Or maybe make the "grower" more intelligent and let him "realize" there's a food shortage and prioritize harvesting instead of planting. But that kinda ruins the concept of these simple AI bots.

Can I possibly request this as a new feature then? =) Pretty please?

Most likely you got so many growing areas that 1 grower is just not enough.

Yes, a result from "tragic" death ;)

But I still think being able to separate the two would be a nice addition. Removes some micromanage requirements when all hell breaks lose. Just increase a single priority and things should sort themselves out.
