Components too cheap

The balance is a bit screwed up in that you can only afford a Components bench if you are so awash in components already that you don't really need it.

I vote toward more costly component but making them easier/slightlyfaster to produce.
As had been said, the engineering table is barely worth the component it use to make one.

Agreed.  Engineering table should be cheaper, and it shouldn't be 30 metal to make one nor take quite that long.

Im sorry I have to be the odd man out. Components are as they say, just components for a different contraption. I whole-heartedly believe you shouldn't makethem more expensive. Instead what you should do is make them less powerful. Seriously consider this, instead of having them be expensive tubing and gears. Instead they should be easier to manufacture and items should use way more components. Maybe add two different types, something along the lines of Specialized components and your normal components. Some for advanced weaponry and electronics, some for basic crafting and weaponsmithing.

Yes!  I have had my bench sitting waiting for components for alost a year.  I have gotten up to 21 then 8 things break down and I don't see a trader for 50 days....    1 combat trader and a hand full of ground traders in the last 50 days and I can't get the stuff.

This is the key point here. If I have 30 components, I won't waste them on the bench to produce them. If I have 100, I would consider it, but what's the point?
If I have less than 30 and I would like to have some more, well, I am screwed over.

30 steel for 1 component hardly ever be worth it, considering steel is rare as a trade good.

I've already altered my output coding for the component assembly bench so that it outputs 10 instead of 1(no change to input)  I find this brings a really nice balance to the assembly bench and makes it live up to it's name.
